BarterNews is printed web offset and saddle-stitch bound.
Follow AAAA and ABP recommended standard specification.
B/W, 2/C and 4/C screen: 133 recommended
B/W density: maximum of 100%
2/C density: maximum of 180%
4/C density: maximum of 300%

Please supply one-piece negative, right-reading, emulsion side down.
Other materials may require separate production charge. Supply
proofs for
all ad materials or other production charges may apply.

PAGE DIMENSIONS
Full page: Trim size is 8.33" wide by 10.75" deep. Keep live matter
(type, etc) at least 3/8" from trim edges and gutter. Print size (image area) is
7-3/8" wide by 10" deep.

Half Page Horizontal: Print size is 7-3/8" wide by 5" deep
Third Page Vertical: Print size is 2-3/8" wide by 10" deep
Quarter Page: Print size is 3-5/8" wide by 5" deep
Sixth Page: Print size is 2-3/8" wide by 5" deep
Eighth Page: Print size is 3-5/8" wide by 2.5" deep

 

Submitting Your Ad Electronically

1. Acceptable applications.

  • QuarkXPress, Illustrator, and Photoshop are preferred.
  • Avoid supplying final page layouts in Illustrator. (We prefer that you save as EPS and place in QuarkXPress.)
  • For electronic media: CD-ROM acceptable for Mac compatible. Iomega - Jaz and Zip.

2. Include all elements with the job.

  • All fonts.
  • All graphics.
  • Make sure all files are linked before you download.
  • Include all hi-res images.

3. Include updated laser print-outs of all pages.

  • Laser should be at 100%.
  • Print a directory of your files.

4. Build pages to the page trim size.

  • Building pages with custom trim marks is not necessary.

5. Include a 3/8” bleed for elements extending off of the page.

  • Elements that do not bleed should be kept 3/8” from the trim.

6. Convert text in Illustrator to paths.

7. Color requirements.

  • Use four color process colors, not Pantone inks.
  • Pantone inks do not always separate into CMYK accurately.

8. Requirements for Photoshop.

  • 600dpi for bitmap images. Save as TIFF.
  • 300dpi (or 2 x line screen) for CMYK images. Save as a 5-file EPS.
  • 170dpi (or 2 x line screen) for Grayscale image. Save as TIFF.
  • Photos in final layout should not be used smaller than 70%, or larger than 130% of Photoshop image.
  • Any photo without a clipping path in Photoshop must have a white or color background.

9. Always submit the complete set of each font as Type One with all the screen fonts and printer fonts.

  • DO NOT submit TrueType fonts with any font set.
  • TrueType fonts may result in problems.
  • TrueType fonts may result in test reflow.
  • Do not make type bold or italic using menu styles.

10. Maintain a complete backup of your submitted files.
